Okay, Sis, brace yourself because we’re diving into a topic today that can be a little bit intimidating. And I get it – I used to be intimated by this too – but it’s time to dig deep because this just might be the *most* important (AND most skipped) step in the tumbler making process!
Today’s HOT topic: The Torch!
This baby is what will give your tumblers that glass-like finish by popping all those little micro bubbles and smoothing out any imperfections in your epoxy.
My favorite torch comes from Counter Culture DIY and is deceptively easy to use. You simply attach your propane tank (you want to use a camping fuel propane tank like this one) and run the torch over your cup in quick, short bursts.
That’s it. I told you it was seriously easy.
Be careful not to hold your torch over any one area for too long and don’t touch the flame to the cup’s surface, instead holding it just above the surface.
Think of it as the same motion as applying your spray paint – quick, short bursts running up and down the cup and along the bottom until all those little bubbles have popped and you’ve got a nice smooth finish.
Okay, Sis, I hope this helps take some of the intimidation out of using a torch for you. I’d love to hear if you give it a try! Leave me a comment down below or tag me on Instagram @hollimostella so I can show you some love!
