I’m so excited to share this fun tutorial with you today, Sis, because it’s not only super easy but it’s also super quick! I’m going to show you how to create a custom can cooler with a Cricut Machine!
If you’ve got 5 minutes, some heat transfer vinyl scraps, and a can cooler, then you’ve got everything you need to create this project.
Let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll Need:
Step 1: Cut and Weed Your Design
Start by measuring the can cooler to determine what size you need to cut your design. Then, place the iron on vinyl onto your mat and load it into your Cricut machine to cut.
Pro Tip: I’m using regular heat transfer vinyl for this project, but you could use flock or glitter HTV if you find that the color of the can cooler is bleeding through. Both flock and glitter iron on vinlys are a bit thicker than regular iron on, so you will have less bleed-through with those types of materials.
Once your machine is done cutting, it’s time to weed. Use a weeding tool to remove all excess vinyl from your design. Don’t forget those little inside bits of your letters!
Step 2: Press
Now that your design has been weeded, you’re ready to press it onto your can cooler.
I’ll be using the EasyPress2 and the EasyPress Mat for this project. I’m going to press one time at 320 degrees for 30 seconds.
Note: If you don’t have an EasyPress mat, place a towel or folded shirt under your can cooler before you press it to give it a little extra cushion
To find the exact time and temperature for the type of iron on vinyl you’re using, check out Cricut’s heat guide.
Step 3: Peel & Enjoy
Cricut Iron-On is a cool peel material, so be sure to give it a minute or two to cool down before peeling away the carrier sheet.
And that’s it – you’re done! These can coolers super fun to customize and make a really cute gift too.
