Whether you’re just starting out or are a photo and video veteran, lighting is one of the most important aspects of creating high-quality, beautiful content.
No matter the camera you use, good lighting is required to create perfect photography.
Here are some of the best beginner lighting tips for photos and video that I’ve learned over years of trial, error, and practice.
Tip 1: Use a Ring Light
While I love natural light and it really is the best for photography – it isn’t always available, so I always start with an 18-inch ring light.
As you can see, this is better but still not great.
Tip 2: Add a Soft Box Light
With the addition of one softbox, you can already see how better the lighting Is and how much clearer it makes the picture look.
But it can get even better, Sis!
Tip 3: Use a Three-Point Lighting System
Whenever possible, I use a simple three-point lighting system. This consists of an 18-inch ring light and two softbox lights. This three-point system gives you really crisp, clear, and beautiful images and is what I recommend using every time you shoot!
Bonus Tip: Edit Using Presets
If you aren’t able to get your lighting completely perfect, you can always work a little editing magic to give your photos that polished, finished look. My favorite way to edit photos is using Lightroom Presets (you can get my custom pack of Lightroom Presets here!) because it is literally just one click and you’re done!
